Challenge
This home’s original 1950s brick and cinder block construction lacked the framing needed for traditional window installation. The existing openings were set directly into masonry, leaving no wood substrate to secure finned windows. The project required careful coordination with a masonry contractor to reshape and modify the openings to accommodate block-frame windows built specifically for masonry. Snowy winter conditions also required precise project scheduling.
The Solution
To address insulation issues and modernize the look of the rear elevation, we installed James Hardie board and batten siding in Arctic White, paired with Tri-Corn Black fascia and gutters for crisp contrast. The siding not only elevated the visual appearance of the rear of the home but also added a durable layer of protection.
The front-facing windows were replaced with black Andersen 100 Series units, featuring simulated divided-light grids applied to both the interior and exterior glass for a true vintage-inspired look. A new sliding glass door from Pella was installed after enlarging the opening, improving both natural light and indoor-outdoor flow.
Homeowner Priorities
The James Hardie siding completely transformed our home—crisp, clean lines and top-notch craftsmanship. The black Andersen 100 windows look incredible inside and out. From sales to execution, the Homestead team nailed it!
