A complete exterior refresh built to withstand Colorado's high winds
In April 2026, Homestead Exteriors completed a full exterior renovation for Sam in Kiowa, Colorado. The home’s existing Millboard wood composite siding and trim had begun to fail, particularly along the roofline and the north and west elevations. Years of additions, repairs, and repainting had also left the exterior with an inconsistent appearance. The goal was to create a clean, cohesive look while upgrading to a more durable, low-maintenance exterior.
Challenge
Located in Colorado’s eastern prairie corridor, this home is regularly exposed to high winds, making proper installation especially important for long-term performance.
During the project, another issue became apparent. Strong winds could be felt through the windows because there was no insulation between the window units and the rough openings. While replacing the siding, the team was able to address this issue by adding insulation around the windows to help better seal the home.
The Solution
Using Hover 3D, the homeowner was able to visualize a refreshed exterior before construction began. The design centered around James Hardie Arctic White lap siding, creating a clean, timeless appearance while replacing the mismatched materials that had accumulated over the years.
The project also included new trim, soffits, fascia, and seamless gutters, resulting in a consistent exterior from top to bottom. Throughout the installation, extra attention was given to proper installation techniques appropriate for the area’s high-wind conditions.
