Complete Exterior Upgrade with Custom Black Accents

Challenge

This home presented a unique challenge due to its long history and multiple additions over time. Originally built in 1929, the structure had evolved through three major additions, meaning each layer of siding revealed a different phase of construction.

During demolition, original skip sheathing (diagonal underlayment) was exposed, showing the A-frame structure beneath later modifications.

In addition to structural complexity, the home’s open rafter tails contributed to an elm beetle infestation, making enclosure and proper finishing a key part of the project.

The Solution

Cash used Hover 3D renderings to guide the design and unify the home’s exterior. The final design centered around James Hardie board and batten siding painted in Ivory Lace, paired with black windows, gutters, and doors for contrast.

The team also prepared areas of the home for a future front porch and concrete project, ensuring a smooth transition into the next phase of work.

The Results

The home now has a unified, updated exterior that reflects a clear design vision while addressing long-standing issues. The combination of new siding, windows, and doors creates a consistent look across all sections of the home, despite its layered construction history.

By planning ahead for future additions like the front porch, the project sets the stage for continued improvements without rework.
